CKC Ex pupils in the UK will celebrate Feast of Christ The King on Sunday 25th November. There will be a mass at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception to be followed by a reception. The Executive Commitee will take the opportunity to report on progress of the charity A ChatRoom has been launched on our website . To enter the Chat Room type in your name and press "select Room " against COBA UK Chat Room and enter the room. You can make appointments with former school mates and then chat together. It is our intention to invite dignitaries or former teachers of CKC to take questions from members in the diaspora in the near future.Anyone wanting to chat with a member of the Executive Commitee or the Webmaster should give at least a couple of days notice. We prefer to leave it with the membership to decide how best they would like to use this facility.COBA UK held it's first Annual General Meeting since it's registeration as a Charity, on sunday 25th March at 95 Elgar Street,
Rotherhithe, London, SE 16 . In a closely fought contest Executive Commitee members were elected as follows;
Antony Sheriff - Chairman, Matthew Sesay- Secretary General, Kebbe Kouroma - Financial Secretary, Ambrose Ganda and Columba Blango were elected Executive Committee Members.The new Executive committee pledged to continue the good work of the outgoing Executive and to work hard to achieve the objectives of the Association
Ex-pupils of Christ The King College currently living in the United Kingdom, celebrated Feast of Christ The King by a mass at The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in South East London on Sunday 26th November. This was followed by a reception at the Holy Trinity Church Hall.
Present to grace the occassion was a former Principal of the school, Rev Fr R Curran, who officiated at the mass, Hon Simon Hughes MP for North Southwark and Bermondsey and Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Councillor Derek Partridge a former Uk High Commissioner to Sierra Leone.
Also present were former VSOs currently living in the UK. Ken Jackson of the legendary Geographical Society and Mr Charles Uzupris.
Also present were ex-pupils of a sister school of CKC, St Pauls Secondary School, Pujehun.
The Ex pupils pledged to raise £25000 to renovate and refurbish their school as well as provide essential textbooks , school materials and computer equipment to create a learning environment similar to the one that existed during the glory days of CKC
The Executive Committee informed their former Principal and Patrons present that they had already raised £4000 and would start work in January 2001 and complete all the projects in 2003.
A comprehensive Project document is currently been produced and will be available in the New Year to members and interested sponsors.
In a speech given by The Hon Simon Hughes, he praised the group for their efforts and promised to use his good offices to help them achieve their objectives.
The Chairman of COBA UK Mr Antony Sheriff, The Financial Secretary Mr Kebbe Kouroma and the Secretary General Mr Barry Honnah all urged ex-pupils to get involved in the work of the Association by paying their annual subscriptions and attending meetings.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Dr Columba Blango , in whose ward the celebrations were held, gave the vote of thanks.
It has been confirmed that COBA Uk is now a registered charity . The registeration number is 1083860.
The next annual fundraising dance will be held on the 14th July 2001 at the Tottenham Town Hall
